Salento is a village nearby Armenia, in the Coffee Triangle. It has a variety of touristic attractions including the ‘Valle de Cocora’. This is a natural site in a mountain valley in the Central mountain range of the Colombian Andes and is part of the National Park Los Nevados. It is a magical place known as the birthplace of Colombia’s national tree, the ‘Quindío wax palm’. This tree is one of the tallest in the world, as it can reach up to 70 meters. This valley has a great variety of flora, cloud forests and small streams. Its fauna is comprised of species that are endangered. This area is protected against exploitation of natural resources. The place is suitable for hiking, horseback riding and rides on the typical ‘Willys’, which are truck type jeeps, that work as a taxi.
