RÍO CLARO & HACIENDA NÁPOLES
DIVE INTO RÍO CLARO AND LIVE A DAY LIKE ‘EL PATRÓN’!
Combine the recent past of the region with wonderful landscapes of the Eastern mountain range.
The ‘Hacienda Nápoles’ is located in the municipality of Puerto Triunfo – Antioquia, 180 km from Medellín. This was the country residence of the famous drug lord Pablo Escobar. Today it is one of the country’s largest theme parks. Reconstructed of what remained after its abandonment, today there are some remains of the main house, a collection of cars from the 20s and an airplane landing strip. There is also a large animal population living on the land of the hacienda, which from the start was one of its greatest attractions. When it belonged to Escobar, the hacienda had more than 1,500 animal species. Thanks to the rehabilitation work on the hacienda, it was accomplished to preserve various species of animals. Currently in Nápoles it is possible to find a large aquarium, a beautiful butterfly house, a community of hippos, elephants, and different families of birds and other species.
Very near to the Hacienda Nápoles, there is a natural wonder called the ‘Natural Reserve Rio Claro’, a tropical rain forest crossed by a beautiful crystal clear river with marble walls. It was chosen as one of the most beautiful rivers in Colombia. Here you can perform various activities such as snorkeling, caving, hiking, canopy, rafting, climbing and bird watching.
