Pacific Coast
Wild nature, ancestral culture, and marine biodiversity on Colombia’s western shore
The Colombian Pacific, a tropical rainforest corridor meeting the ocean, brings together mangroves, powerful rivers, black-sand beaches, humid forests, and an Afro-descendant culture deeply rooted in music. The region has a warm, humid climate with abundant rainfall year-round and hosts coastal and rainforest ecosystems inhabited by humpback whales, sea turtles, tropical birds, and endemic species of wet forest.
Bahía Solano
Bahía Solano, located at sea level in the department of Chocó, has a warm-humid climate with temperatures ranging from 24 °C to 31 °C, accompanied by frequent rainfall that feeds its mangroves and coastal forests. Its wide beaches, calm bays, and estuaries host rich marine life where turtles, shorebirds, and—during the season—humpback whales can be seen near the coast.
Here, travelers can join responsible whale-watching excursions guided by local experts, paddle through mangrove channels in the Utría inlet, hike to hidden waterfalls deep within the rainforest, learn traditional cooking techniques such as coconut-based dishes and fresh fish preparations, and participate in community-led musical gatherings featuring marimba, cununo drums, and ancestral Pacific chants.

Nuquí
Nuquí, also located at sea level on the Gulf of Tribugá, maintains a constantly warm-rainy climate with temperatures between 25 °C and 31 °C and extensive primary rainforest descending directly into the sea. Its volcanic beaches, natural hot springs, and rainforest rivers create an ideal setting for adventure tourism and meaningful community-based ecotourism.
In this destination, visitors can surf on beaches such as Guachalito, hike to waterfalls surrounded by giant ferns, enjoy natural hot springs at the edge of the forest, take birdwatching walks to spot tropical species, join ancestral cooking and craft workshops, and experience cultural exchanges with Afro and Indigenous communities who share their knowledge, songs, and traditions. During whale season, Nuquí is one of the region’s privileged spots for seeing humpback whales close to shore.

Guapi & Gorgona Island
Guapi, located at sea level on the Pacific coast of Cauca, has a warm-humid climate with temperatures between 24 °C and 30 °C. It is a profoundly musical territory where the marimba, bombo drums, and traditional chants shape community life. Its riverbanks and mangrove channels make fluvial journeys a perfect blend of nature, culture, and ancestral gastronomy.
Here, travelers can participate in marimba and dance workshops, ride along the river in potrillo boats while listening to cantos de boga, learn to prepare encocados, traditional sweets, and beverages such as viche, walk through riverfront neighborhoods, and share with masters of Afro-Pacific tradition. From Guapi, visitors can access Gorgona Island for a full-day excursion that includes guided nature walks, a visit to Playa Palmeras, and a historical tour of the former prison—now a protected natural sanctuary where marine species, rainforest ecosystems, and historic ruins coexist.
