CITY TOUR MEDELLÍN
SURPRISE YOURSELF WITH THE CITY OF ETERNAL SPRING!
Medellín is located in a natural region known as the ‘Valle de Aburrá’, in the central mountain range of the Andes. Called the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ for its temperate climate of an average of 22°C. It is surrounded by mountain ranges that remain green throughout the year, with a large variety of flowers and fruit trees.
Medellin is the textile city of Colombia; annually the country’s most important fashion show– the ‘Colombiamoda’ – takes place here. The most important cultural event each year is the ‘Feria de las Flores’, a huge flower festival, held in early October. It manages to show the wonderful scents and colors of the city, when hundreds of peasants come down from the nearby mountains with a ‘silleta’ on their shoulders, decorated with flowers. Medellin was known worldwide as the capital of drug trafficking, because Pablo Escobar had his headquarters there. Today this is another attraction of the city. The metropolis, that once had the reputation of being the ‘most dangerous city on the globe’, today is a magnet for tourists for its safety and various attractions. On the ‘Plaza Botero’ the sculptures of the artist Fernando Botero (the most recognized painter alive nowadays) can be admired. Furthermore, in Medellín there are many churches, museums and monuments that are worth visiting, for example, the ‘Catedral Metropolitana’, the ‘Iglesia de la Candelaria’ or the ‘Museo de Arte Moderno’. Walk around in ‘El Poblado’, which is the most modern and elegant area of the city, where the nightlife takes place. A visit to the ‘Pueblito Paisa’, a reconstruction of a typical ancient village in the region, is also recommended. Situated on a hill, it offers a wonderful view of the city. Also listed as the ‘most innovative city in the world’, it is best viewed from the air. Experience the gondola of the ‘Metrocable’, which connects now the poor neighborhoods on the slopes with the public transport system in the valley. The view wanders over tin roofs and the crowded streets of Santo Domingo district, where rival gangs once had a war. A unique opportunity to observe the social reality of the city.
