CITY TOUR SANTA MARTA
EXPERIENCE THE ATTRACTIONS OF THE OLDEST CITY IN COLOMBIA!
Santa Marta is known for being the oldest city in Colombia. It was founded in 1525 and is the perfect destination to enjoy the mountains and the sea together. This city, located in the bay of the same name, has a unique architectural heritage that evokes the days of the banana boom. Its most populated part is the historic center. Enjoy a beautiful sunset on the ‘Malecón de Bastidas’ and fill your spirit with a magic hard to describe. Like Santa Marta, its Cathedral is very old. Inside the building, the ashes of Rodrigo de Bastidas (founder of the city) are preserved. Until 1842 there were also the remains of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, which were then transferred to Caracas. Similarly, visit the Tayrona Museum, which contains a collection of authentic pieces and enigmatic archaeological remains. La ‘Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino’ built in 1608 is a beautiful farm located just outside the city. It is where Simon Bolivar lived his last days. Another attractive part of the city is the ‘Rodadero’, which is the biggest balneario in town, a comfortable tourist complex. Near the city, there is the Tayrona National Park, whose attractions are its beautiful beaches. These are surrounded by a pristine, abundant nature, recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world. Santa Marta is located at the foot of the highest coastal mountain in the world, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, called the ‘center of the earth’ by the Kogi Indians. In this mountain there is located the ‘Lost City’, which lies in the midst of a vast and amazing landscape.
