The Vanguardia airport is located in Villavicencio, two hours from Bogotá; home to several wonderful flying machines, known as Douglas DC-3. This is the iconic aircraft that revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Widely used by the US Air Force. Currently it is estimated, that only about 100 DC-3 remain in service. From this airport daily flights to more remote parts of the Plains of Colombia and the Amazon jungle are made to deliver vital supplies to most isolated communities in Colombia.
