The peninsula of Guajira stands out inside the imposing Caribbean Sea in the northern tip of Colombia and South America. It is surrounded by beautiful and tranquil blue waters and decorated with the immense colouring of Wayúu handicrafts, ethnic population that inhabit these exotic lands. Sun, mountain, desert, salt and beach make this province a different and unexpected region on the Caribbean, where reality and fantasy get confused.

- Physical Requirements and Recommendations:
  This adventure type journey is a demanding route, without the comforts of a conventional tourism trip. Water is scarce and the little electrical energy is obtained from gasoline generators and solar panels. The path is uncovered and dusty. Permanent sunshine and constant heat during the day and cold at night. There are no beds nor conventional hotels, accommodation is provided in hammocks in the huts of the Wayúu communities, in tourist huts of Cabo de la Vela or in a camp on the visited beaches.
  For this tour the visitor should be physically healthy. Not suitable for disabled people, due to lack of required services. Due to the travel conditions, it is not recommended for children under 8 years, adults over 70 years or for people with chronic health problems. Nevertheless there is health care (hospitals) available in Uribía, Manaure and Nazareth and there are health posts in Puerto López, Puerto Estrella and Cabo de la Vela.
  For a more comfortable journey we recommend: Bring a water bottle, knife, toiletry items (toothbrush, towel, soap and toothpaste, the latter two preferably biodegradable), hiking boots and sandals or beach shoes, 2 or 3 sets of clothes for warm weather: shirts or T-shirts, pants preferably denim (strong and allowing flexibility), bathing suit and shorts, flashlight with extra batteries, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses with UV filter, hat or cap for the sun, ID, personal first-aid kit, heat mat, sleeping bag and camera.
