NATIONAL PARK PURACÉ
REVITALIZE IN THE MOST NATURAL PLACE IN COLOMBIA!
The National Park Puracé is located in southwestern Colombia, near the city of Popayán. This region is part of the ‘Macizo Colombiano’, where some of the most important rivers of Colombia spring (Magdalena, Cauca and Caquetá). The park is home to a large variety of fauna, such as the great Andean condor, blazon bird of Colombia, crowned eagle and the torrent duck. Among its stunning scenery, the Puracé Park hosts several lakes, snowy mountains and volcanoes. This is reflected in the numerous sulphurous sources, also in its natural thermal pools.
This park was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, for its abundance of ecosystems, such as the cloud forest, páramo, super páramo and snowy areas. There can also be found some nationwide endangered plant species, such as the Colombian pine, oak and wax palm.
Located in the Puracé Park, is the volcanic complex ‘Serranía de los Coconucos’, with its peaks: Pan de Azúcar, Coconuco and Puracé, among others. The latter and the Sotará volcano are the only ones presenting mild activity.
