NEMOCÓN SALT MINE & TATACOITA DESERT
TOUCH THE HEART OF COLOMBIA!
Nemocón is a picturesque village located 65 kilometers north of Bogotá and has a population of over 10,000 inhabitants. Here is located the salt mine with its impressive salt formations. Among these are the ‘Mirrors of Water’, the ‘Salt Waterfall’, the ‘Well of the Wishes’, a carved crystal called ‘The Heart of Colombia’, to be considered the world’s biggest heart, the ‘City of Stalactites’ created by the water drops and the ‘Well of San Juan’, which for its high salt concentration has similar properties to the Dead Sea. The tour leads to a museum, where you learn about the place and its history. It is evident that mining is very popular in this region, because of the salt mines of Zipaquirá and Nemocón, with some areas open to the public, and others for salt extraction. Afterwards visit the church ‘Templo Parroquial’ and the main square of the village.
Similarly, this tour can be combined with a visit to the ‘Desert of Tataocoita’, a region that has suffered from erosion. This has formed a canyon over hundreds of years, where the sands and rocks present a series of labyrinths. Enjoy this beautiful landscape marked by contrasts.
