SALT CATHEDRAL ZIPAQUIRÁ
GET TO KNOW THE FIRST WONDER OF COLOMBIA!
Zipaquirá is a beautiful village located 50 km north of Bogotá. It has a colonial look thanks to its ancient buildings. Here is located the Salt Cathedral, which is an old salt mine transformed into a cathedral. It is an extraordinary work of architecture and engineering, called ‘The First Wonder of Colombia’. The interior of the mine is about 25 meters high and has a capacity to accommodate 10,000 people. Inside the mine there are tunnels with beautiful works of art and the wonderful Stations of the Cross, that surprise, thanks to the painstaking work of illumination. In the central dome is located the biggest cross of the cathedral with a height of 15 meters.
