The village of Villa de Leyva is about three hours north of Bogotá. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Colombia for its colonial architecture, lovely white houses, cobbled streets, numerous churches and squares, of which the ‘Central Plaza’ is considered one of the biggest in South America. Villa de Leyva was founded in 1572 under the name of Villa de Santa María de Leyva and recognized as a national monument in 1954.
